Introducing the Twilio Field Operators Program

From every corner of the world, thousands of brave souls have answered the call to join the TwilioQuest Program. As this new generation of Operators prepares to confront the evil Legacy Systems, there is an urgent need for leadership outside The Cloud. That’s where Field Operators come in.

The TwilioQuest Program is seeking US-based student leaders to tackle real-world assignments–we call these elite agents Field Operators. Field Operators will be asked to lead virtual and IRL events for their fellow students, explore exciting new technologies, and serve student developer communities. In successfully doing so, they will be rewarded with exclusive swag, career development support, and the satisfaction of knowing that they have served your community well.

Who are Field Operators?

Field Operators are passionate college students interested in sharing programming- and Twilio-related knowledge (no prior Twilio knowledge required–we will train you!) They are caring, empathetic, and driven, constantly learning so they can have an impact on fellow students.

This is a year-round program for college students who want to actively engage, serve, and teach other students. It’s our way of supporting and recognizing college developers for their contributions to the tech industry.

What Do Field Operators Do?

These developers draw the owl. As one of Twilio’s nine values, this saying rings true for employees and Field Operators alike. There’s no instruction book, it’s ours to draw. Figure it out, ship it and iterate. Chances are, you or someone you know are already building projects, helping others, or contributing to the Twilio ecosystem in the unique way that only you can.

As a Field Operator, you will be asked to complete assignments like writing blog posts, streaming content, planning and hosting fun events on campus and online, acting as a campus ambassador for Twilio teams, speaking at conferences and meetups, creating technical content like YouTube and TikTok videos.

Current Alpha Operator, Arthur Tham, did a coding Twitch stream and made a Twilio Jeopardy gamecheck out the demo on YouTube here!

What Do Field Operators Receive?

In return, you will be rewarded with access to Twilions, invites to exclusive events, special swag, resources like funds, food, or swag for organizing activities and events for college developers on their campuses, opportunities to speak, mentor, or give workshops at events, and more. We will also provide training sessions on interviewing, public speaking, AMA sessions with the Twilio Developer Network, product deep-dives, IoT and machine learning, and more.

How do I become a Field Operator?

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and Field Operators will be assigned a cohort where they go through training with other Operators. You may submit yourself, a friend, or a colleague for the program as long as they are a US-based college student.

Where can I find Twilio Field Operators?

We tested the alpha version of the Operators program with a few students. Arthur Tham from our first cohort on why they chose to represent Twilio on their campuses:

“Twilio actively helps out the hackers at the collegiate hackathon HackUCI and it was inspiring to see how simple it was to implement the Twilio APIs. I wanted to help inspire new developers to take advantage of various APIs using the programming languages of their choice and to show them that coding can be fun and interactive.

Programs like TwilioQuest and Twilio’s presence at hackathons help out greatly with this and I wanted to take part in this endeavor as well!”
