How to quickly fade videos in CapCut

In just a few short steps, you can easily add your own fades to any CapCut video. You can use this to seamlessly move out of a scene and leave room for text, for example. In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to quickly fade videos in CapCut.

Why fade videos in CapCut?

The results are clear: fade effects look amazing! They’re simple, yet elegant. With a fade in, your screen goes from black to slowly introduce the video. A fade out is the reverse: your video fades to black. Both are incredibly easy to add in CapCut. But why should you?

A CapCut fade in or fade out offers sleek, movie-grade styling.

Think about this:

  • Fades offer professional styling. Think of your favorite professionally produced videos. Odds are, nearly all feature fades. This quick edit delivers the coveted cinematic appearance that you’re looking for.
  • They make videos more attractive. Videos that just start and stop can appear jerky and abrupt. Fades can make them seem much more elegant and seamless to the viewer.
  • They help you build suspense. A slow fade is the video equivalent of a curtain on stage. You can raise or lower the fade slowly to heighten suspense and build drama.

As you can see, the benefits are many. Let’s learn how to quickly fade videos in CapCut, step by step.

How to quickly fade videos with CapCut (step by step)

Below, I’ll walk you through adding fades in CapCut quickly. In the tutorial, you’ll see stock footage in use. It’s sourced from Envato Elements. Download it if you’d like to follow the steps on your own.

For the tutorial, we’ll show CapCut in use on an iOS mobile device. CapCut is also available from the Google Play Store for Android devices. You can also install it on your desktop Windows or Mac computer.

1. Open the Effects panel

In CapCut, go ahead and open a video project. On the main Edit view, you’ll see the video previewed at the top. Below the preview is the Timeline, where you can move through your video frame by frame.

I like to think of the Timeline as the firm foundation of a great video. That’s because it’s there that you set the stage by placing all of your media and effects in place.

On the toolbar, find and open the Effects panel in CapCut. With it, you’ll soon see how to quickly fade videos in CapCut.

Right below the Timeline is the toolbar menu. It’s here that you’ll be able to quickly add fade effects in CapCut. Look at your options: Edit, Audio, Text, Effects, Overlay, and more.

To fade videos in CapCut, you want to launch the Effects panel. Do that by tapping on the Effects button. The toolbar menu disappears, replaced by a series of effect options. Here, choose Video effects on the left side.

2. Find fade effects

When you tap Video effects, a brand-new menu pane pops up from the bottom of your CapCut screen. This houses the vast assortment of video effects that come included with CapCut. Many are free, while some are only part of premium CapCut tiers.

On the Video effects pane, you’ll see a series of category tabs across the top. These are Trending, Pro, Opening & Closing, and more. You can browse through these and find cool fade effects. Or you can take a shortcut.

The Video effects pane lets you search the collection of video fades in CapCut. Then, you can add them to your next video.

Notice at the top of the pane that there is a search box. Type in Fade, and then press Search. CapCut will show you the full list of available fades. Each one is shown in its own thumbnail image. As you watch them, the individual effects preview in real time. Browse through the options and choose one.

3. Apply fade effects and adjust the duration

You’ve chosen a fade effect. Now, it’s time to add it to your video! To add the effect, tap on its thumbnail. Instantly, CapCut will apply it to your video. Next, find the checkmark icon immediately to the right of the search bar.

Tap the checkmark. That takes you back to the main CapCut editing view. You can see the full video preview again, and below it, your Timeline. Your effect is added! You’ll see it appear below your video as a purple bar.

Tap a fade effect to add it to your CapCut videos. Then, navigate back to your Timeline and choose where to place the effect.

Here, CapCut gives you control over when the effect starts and ends. To move it around in your video, simply drag it left or right with your finger. You can also use the end handles to lengthen or shorten it.

Fades can go anywhere, but as a general rule, fade-in effects go at the very start of a video, while fade-out effects are placed at the end.
