sinner in church, watching some poor barista trying to remember the 32
different ways to brew a damn cup of joe. You’d think she was solving a
Rubik’s cube blindfolded, while juggling chainsaws. Meanwhile, the dude in
front of me, Mr. Perfect Kicks and a Gucci bag, flips his hair around like
it's the damn crown jewels, all the while complaining about his basic soy
latte. I wanted to scream, 'Buddy, it’s not the coffee that’s bitter – it’s
you!' But instead, I kept my mouth shut and settled for a silent eye roll.
See, folks like Mr. Kicks treat their caffeine addiction like a status symbol,
strutting around like they just won a gold medal in Olympic Pretentiousness.
It's all a game, a race to make it big in the small world of consumerism where
the coffee’s overpriced, the company’s plastic, and the only thing genuine is
the barista's eye roll. It reminded me of that old-school idea about finding
peace amidst the chaos, the art of being okay with just being – not being the
king of a shit castle that’s all flash with no substance. But hey, this is the
modern world, and if you ain't got a fancy latte or a stupid-ass title next to
your name, you might as well be a rotting banana on the side of the road. The
truth? Those who zealously pursue status are often just fleeing the darker
truths of who they really are – a bunch of lost sheep, bleating for
validation.
So next time you find yourself sucked into the vortex of meaningless luxury,
just remember: a wise philosopher once said that freedom isn't found in the
things you own but in how little of it you actually need. So, grab a black
coffee, skip the frills, and watch the confused faces of those still chasing
glitter. Perhaps then, you’ll finally see the fools for who they really are –
