Just stick to web development and stop writing about politics. You’re going to alienate half of your list.

And oh boy, do I have feelings about this!

Politics is always woven into my work, whether explicit or implicit.

I care that when women tell men they’re developers or engineers, they get asked dumb shit like…

But what do you *really* do?

I care that trans folks—who literally built the tech industry and its foundational infrastructure—are being told they don’t exist, and have to worry about where they’ll use the fucking bathroom when they leave their house.

I care that non-white developers have to work twice as hard to get half the credit and then be told they’re only there because they were “a diversity hire.”

I don’t care if me talking about that bothers you.

Sometimes alienating people is good, actually.

I completely understand not wanting to get mired down in doomerism when the news is just an endless sea of bad shit. But if you’re more bothered by me talking about this stuff than about the stuff itself… bye! You won’t be missed!

I certainly won’t alienate half my list.

At this point, most of my audience knows what I’m about, and only a handful of new folks will be surprised by that.

But even if that weren’t the case, I care about doing the right thing more than I care about whatever capitalist profit-over-all-else bullshit you’re trying to sell me.

Think about the shareholders!

No, I don’t think I will.

Own your website.

This is my website. These are my words.

I’ll be damned if anyone is going to tell me what I can and can’t talk about here.

I encourage you to own your content, too. Own your platform. Share your thoughts. Connect with others, and find your people.

I’m glad you’re here with me. Thanks for being my people!
