As a career transitioner with a "non-traditional," and multifaceted background, it's really hard to package your work and project experience into a neat little box. 📦

However, there's something I learned as I've been applying:

There are actually job descriptions out there that don't care about your title, but more so what you can bring to the table. "Can you get your hands dirty?" I love that question and that this was added to a job description at a company I applied to. Very unicorn status. 🦄✨

As a person going from chef to tech, yes, I literally get my hands dirty in the trenches everyday. And that's a transferrable skill! It translates to tenacity, persistence, problem-solving, and getting sh*t done.

I'm learning never to discount my work experience, from dance instructor, to chef, to food business coach. Though there are some things I can highlight a lot more when it comes to the resume, application, or interview, nothing in my past was done in vain and every non-tech experience I've had actually makes me a more well-rounded candidate due to the immense amount of "soft skills" and leadership skills acquired. ✅

What is one skill/lesson you've learned and carried with you from your past job(s)? I'd love to know!
