I need a break

I’m an outgoing introvert.
This weekend, I went to a mid-day concert a friend was performing in. Afterwards, we went back to a mutual friend’s house to eat pizza and hang out.
I was super chatty and met a couple of new people that I was having some really interesting conversations with… until I hit my wall.
For me, it’s an instant drop-off.
(Or it feels that way, anyways. There’s probably some signals my body sends that I’m approaching that point, but my ADHD brain doesn’t notice.

There’s probably some signals my body sends that I’m approaching that point, but my ADHD brain doesn’t notice.)

My brain slams on the breaks and says, “whoa partner, you’re over-stimulated. You need a recharge.” I become physically tired, and unable to engage in conversation or follow what people are saying.

I used to try to power through it, causing me to look like an aloof moron half the time.

Now, I just curl up in the corner with my phone and play games, read, or watch videos for a bit until I’m recharged.

I know it looks rude. Even family members who know me and how my brain works find it off-putting at times. But it is what it is.

My brain says its done. It’s done.

If I take the time I need to recharge, I can often bounce back into it socializing again. If I push it too far, though, I’m done for the day.

And this is why I’ve kind of stopped caring what others think about it. I take care of me.
