Hello, fellow developers! đź‘‹
Let's get real for a minute. I've seen hundreds of developer portfolios, and some mistakes keep popping up again and again. Let's fix these before they hurt your chances!
Mistake #1: The Ghost Portfolio
You know what I'm talking about - portfolios with no contact information, broken links, or projects that don't work. If someone loves your work but can't reach you, what's the point?
Fix it: Add multiple ways to contact you. Email, LinkedIn, GitHub, or maybe Twitter if you're active there.
Mistake #2: The Novel Biography
Your "About Me" section shouldn't be longer than a short story. Keep it punchy - who you are, what you do, what makes you different. Done.
Fix it: Aim for 2-3 short paragraphs max. Save the life story for your memoir.
Mistake #3: The Mystery Projects
"This is my e-commerce site." Cool... but what does it do? What tech stack? What challenges did you solve? Give out the details!
Fix it: For each project, explain:
What it does
Technologies used
Challenges you overcame
What you learned
Mistake #4: The Broken Demo
Nothing kills excitement faster than clicking a demo link and getting a 404 error. Test everything, then test it again.
Fix it: Check all your links monthly. Use services like _Netlify _or _Vercel _for reliable hosting.
Pro Tip
If you're feeling overwhelmed about design, there are some great portfolio templates out there. I've seen some nice ones on Gumroad that can give you a solid starting point - just make sure to customize them to reflect your personality!
