The increasing demand for real-time data streaming in domains such as financial trading, IoT, and live analytics has elevated the need for high-performance network applications. Go (Golang), with its lightweight concurrency primitives and efficient networking libraries, offers a compelling solution for building scalable and low-latency streaming services. This paper presents a case study of developing a real-time data streaming service in Go, highlighting the design, implementation, and performance evaluation. We implement a streaming pipeline using goroutines, channels, and TCP-based connections, measuring throughput, latency, and goroutine scheduling efficiency under various workloads. The study demonstrates Go’s capabilities in handling high-volume, low-latency streaming and provides practical guidelines for network application developers.

Real-time data streaming is increasingly central in modern applications such as:

  • Financial market tickers: Delivering price updates with sub-millisecond latency.
  • IoT telemetry: Streaming sensor data to central servers for analysis.

Traditional approaches using threads or event loops in languages like Java or Python often suffer from high memory overhead or inefficient scheduling. Go, designed with concurrency and network programming in mind, provides lightweight goroutines, fast context switching, and efficient network libraries (net, net/http, net/tcp), making it ideal for high-throughput streaming applications.

7. Conclusion

By combining goroutines, channels, and worker pools, developers can build scalable and reliable streaming services without the complexity of manual thread management.
