Tron: Ares marks the third big-screen entry since the original 1982 cult classic, bringing back Jeff Bridges alongside newcomers Jared Leto, Evan Peters and Greta Lee. It deliberately ignores much of Tron: Legacy’s storyline in favor of a more direct homage to the franchise’s roots.
Despite a killer Nine Inch Nails-led score from Trent Reznor, the film struggles to shake off a sense of déjà vu. Nostalgia is the main draw, but even Kevin Flynn might admit that great music alone can’t fully rescue a movie that feels a bit too familiar.
