We’re excited to announce a major development in screen readers. JAWS will soon support multi-line Braille solutions, thanks to close collaboration with several partners and Braille device manufacturers. This advance will offer users with supported Braille displays a new and enhanced way to read and interact with text on their computers.
With JAWS’ upcoming multi-line Braille support, users will be able to view multiple lines of Braille text at once. This not only allows for more content to be read without panning, but also enables a richer layout of presented text information—for example, presenting multiple rows and columns of a table side by side.
The multi-line functionality in JAWS will be available to all our registered Braille display partners including the APH Monarch, Dot.inc DotPad, and New Haptics Codex. The number of lines supported and specific functionality will depend on the capabilities of each device.
As the technology evolves, you may see these new devices featured at conferences or in demo sessions—fully integrated with JAWS. Early previews were already showcased at events like SightCity in Germany. You will also have more opportunities to experience these innovations at upcoming conventions this Summer.
Additional development work is still ongoing, and we anticipate the official release of Multi-line support in Fall 2025. This is just the beginning, and we’re proud to help shape the future of Braille.
