Kevin Parker and Tame Impala surprised everyone by going fully acoustic for their Tiny Desk concert at NPR HQ, trading synth swells for raw guitars, ukulele and percussion. Stripping things back felt like a throwback to the early days of the series—“Loser” shines with nothing but guitar, while the live debut of “Dracula” highlights the group’s tight harmonies and Parker’s dreamy falsetto.
They ran through four tracks—“Borderline,” “Loser,” “Dracula” and “New Person, Same Old Mistakes”—with Dominic Simper and Jay Watson on guitar, James Ireland on ukulele, Julien Barbagallo and James on percussion, and Cameron Avery on bass. The result is a fresh, intimate take on Tame Impala classics that proves less really can be more.
